The International Summer Academy of Music (ISAM) is an prestigious summer institution that was founded in 2005, and since 2010 has been located in the Landesmusikakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ochsenhausen, Germany. The two-week academy, aimed at selected composers from across the globe, deepens musical skills and expands musical horizons through high quality workshops, seminars, lectures, rehearsals, concerts and a final competition.
From Germany to Australia
Noosa ISAM is the inaugural Australian version of the Academy. It will be held during our summer in beautiful Noosa, Queensland. The co-founder of ISAM, Ofer Ben-Amots will be running the composition workshop along with Jan Jirásek, another long standing professor of composition from ISAM.
The hallmarks of the Academy’s training program are the daily individual lessons with the faculty. The small number of participants, coupled with a celebrated faculty that shares all meals and events, creates a rare collegial atmosphere through which a constant flow of stimulating exchange occur. Acceptance is based on the applicant’s artistic potential and/or achievements, evaluated individually by the faculty.
In the second week participants begin rehearsing their work with a professional ensemble. At the end of the Academy, all composers are invited to partake in the Composers’ Competition. This competition is intended to increase the excitement, energy, and creativity among our hand-picked talented composers, while at the same time generate a harvest of new, beautiful, and highly artistic works.
